Types of Rabbit Breeds
There are two main rabbit breed divisions; domestic rabbit breeds and wild rabbit breeds. Most of today’s domestic breeds originated from the European Rabbit. The individual domestic breeds listed in this article have been created through a long process of selective and genetic cross breeding. It would theoretically be impossible to list every single breed developed because their development is literally a never ending and continuous process. What I can do however is provide information on breeds that are recognized by popular organizations such as the American Rabbit Breeders Association and British Rabbit Council.

|Table by Rabbit Empire|
Let me point out a few things about the comprehensive rabbit breed table above…
First off the weights are estimated, the fact of the matter is- some rabbits of the same breed grow to be different sizes than others. I also want to point out that I do not own every breed of rabbit, so much of the data displayed above is based upon research I have preformed.
I have grouped the rabbit breeds listed above by size based upon the following standards:
2-6 lbs: Small
6-9 lbs: Medium
9-11 lbs: Large
11 lbs + : Giant
The size groupings above are based upon estimated breed weight, not your individual animal(s).
In the table above I have listed the fur type for each ARBA recognized breed. The breeds marked as having flyback or rollback fur, essentially are labeled as having “normal fur”. Flyback and Rollback are simply a division of the Normal Fur Category.
